Luthando Dziba recieved his PhD in 2005 at Utah State University under Dr. Fred Provenza. He did his BS (Range Science) and MS (Animal Science) at Fort Hare University, South Africa. Luthando joined Utah State in the fall of 2000 in a program funded by the USDA-ARS. Luthando is interested in mechanisms that influence how terpenes limit intake of sagebrush by sheep and how increased consumption of sagebrush by sheep might enhance and maintain rangeland biodiversity. He has completed pen studies which demonstrated decline in food intake with increase in dietary terpene concentrations and field studies that showed that macronutrient supplementation increases consumption of sagebrush by sheep. His current research involves infusing sheep with terpenes to understand the influence of terpenes on animal feeding behavior.
